Meet Constellation Arts Collective

Our Story

Constellation Arts Collective was born out of our team's lived experiences navigating intersectional identities and systemic barriers within the performing arts. A conversation turned catalyst on how educational, inclusive and compassionate spaces remain inaccessible for emerging artists remains at the center of our work. Across 3 years of programming, Constellation Arts has built environments meant to foster community, growth and encouraged youth to envision better futures - for themselves, and for the arts industry.

Our Mission

Constellation Arts Collective creates space for young people to engage collectively in accessible artistic opportunities. We provide resources, advice, training and guidance to young artists of color and from low-income backgrounds to help them grow personally and professionally.

Our Vision

We envision an arts ecosystem in which all artists have access to a network of support with peers and mentors who build a sustainable, financially stable, and fulfilling future in the arts.

Our Team

Sara Lam (She/Her)

Hi! I’m Sara, and I’m an undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, majoring in Psychology with minors in French, music, and Gender, Women, Sexuality Studies. I’ve been working in the community for 4 years. I founded a Generation Action chapter in Prior Lake called PL Teen Action Group, worked for Planned Parenthood North Central States as a Healthy Communities Organizer, and now work for the City of St. Paul as a Right Track Job Coach. I’m also super involved at the U of M as External Vice President of Vera, Secretary of Asian Student Union, and Multimedia of Students for Reproductive Freedom. I’m passionate about the arts but chose against pursuing theater in high school due to the unsafe and uncomfortable environment for BIPOC folk, so I’m looking forward to supporting youth pursuing the arts!

Riya Mukerjee (she/her)

Hi! I’m Riya. I’m a senior at Apple Valley High School. I founded and currently lead Apple Valley’s Generation Action Chapter, AV Action Initiative, and worked for Planned Parenthood North Central States as a Healthy Communities Organizer. I’m on the executive board of Youth Against Sexual Violence and on the core team of The Body Org. I have experience in high school theater as an actor, although I’ve experienced discomfort and barriers in the environment, and currently I’m pursuing dramatic writing.

Sophie Peyton (She/Her)

Hi, I’m Sophie! I’m a freelance director and producer, working primarily in new work development. Over the past several years, I’ve worked more at the intersection of intergenerational theater, grassroots organizing, and anti-oppression work. I’m a passionate advocate for anti-racist theater practices, and a core organizer with the MN Artist Coalition. I previously served as a work group lead with the MN Theater Accountability Coalition, and am a proud signatory of the MN Theater Standards for Safety and Accountability. Assistant Directing regional credits include: McCarter Theatre Center, Wilma Theater, MN Opera, Mixed Blood Theatre, Park Square Theater, History Theatre, and Trademark Theater. B.A. from Temple University.
